There are endless amounts of cool things to do in Berlin, because it’s just such a cool city! Berlin is unlike anywhere we’ve ever been on our travels. A trip to this free-spirited, artsy city is recommended for hippies, backpackers, retirees, bohemians, musicians, performers, families… for everyone.

While there may be numerous sites and monuments to see, and other historically important things to do in Berlin, in this post, we’re going to share with you our top 10 “cool” things to do on your trip to this unique capital city.

1. spend an evening in Tempelhof Park

Up until 2008, this was the location of one of the major airports in Berlin. these days however, it’s a large, vast field which is a great place for residents and tourists to spend the day or evening.

Here you’ll find people running, cycling, or skating on the 6 kilometer trail. Others opt to practice yoga, read, listen to music, drink beer and wine, smoke weed and laze on the grass ?

While we were in Berlin this June, there was a petition being passed around to keep the park as a recreational place for the locals, rather than selling off the space to a developer. These petitions have been signed in the past, with the residents winning the battle.

Fingers crossed that this beautiful space doesn’t get bought-up by a large corporation.

2. join a Bike Tour

Cycling around the city is one of the top things to do in Berlin. It’s such an easy place for cyclists as there is a designated bike lane, and the city is relatively flat. You can rent a bike independently to explore on your own, or join a bike tour.

Berlin On Bike offers a few different trips around the city. Their newest tour is called Bike ‘n’ Bite, which takes in four different restaurants, a local market, a couple of parks and 12 kilometers of cycling! This tour is very relaxed and a lot of fun.

3. visit the Sunday Flea Market & Mauer Park

Checking out vintage items at a flea market, and relaxing in a park are two of the best things to do in Berlin. try to time your visit for a weekend as there are many markets set up all around the city.

On Sundays, head to Mauer Park in Prenzlaur Berg for the massive flea market and performances in the park.

Here you’ll find some of the most random items for sale. need a stuffed seagull? interested in an old cord phone? You’ll find it here. On top of finding interesting things, there are numerous food stalls, a beer garden, and singing / dancing in Mauer Park.

This is the spot to be on a Sunday afternoon.

If you want to be extra cool, check out the RAW fleamarket, which is less touristy.

4. Saturday Market Along the Landwehr Canal

The Neuköllner Stoff is a market in the Kruezberg neighbourhood, which sets up along the gorgeous Landwehr Canal on Saturdays. here you’ll find people selling jewellery, fabric, clothing, artwork, books, food, wine and much more!

It’s a great place to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.

5. hit Up a Beer garden / Beer Shop

If there’s one cool thing to do in Berlin, it’s drinking beer at a beer garden! But, if you want to go one step further and be even more hip, do as the Berliners do and purchase beer from a shop, then proceed to sit on the sidewalk directly out front to enjoy your brew.

Drinking in a beer garden is a lot of fun because you’ll be surrounded by others and the beer will be poured into a perfectly chilled glass. sitting on the pavement is equally fun if you have friends with you, and the beer will be much cheaper.

6. explore the unique Neighbourhoods

Berlin is made up of 12 boroughs, and each one is different from the next. spend the day waLKing totdat je niet meer kunt lopen. Je zult waarschijnlijk merken wanneer je een andere buurt overstak, omdat de sites, mensen en het algemene gevoel zullen veranderen.

Van het edgy, kunstzinnige gebied van Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg tot de meer gentrified Mitte en luxe Prenzlaur Berg, er is een gebied voor iedereen in Berlijn. We raden aan om ze allemaal te verkennen en verborgen edelstenen te vinden in elk.

7. Gawk at Street Art

Berlijn is de thuisbasis van aspirant -muzikanten, artiesten en kunstzinnige soorten. Als je een creatief bot in je lichaam hebt, is Berlijn waar je moet zijn. Overal in de stad vind je prachtige muurschilderingen, graffiti en schilderijen van stedelijke kunstenaars.

Veel van de kunst is tot nadenken stemmend en politiek geladen, terwijl anderen gewoon prachtige scènes zijn.

Sommige populaire artiesten om op te letten zijn Alicé aka Alice Pasquini, Herakut, El Bocho, Xoooox en Banksy. Bekijk voor meer informatie Urban Nation, een netwerk van jonge kunstenaars die zowel internationale als nationale figuren naar de stad brengt.

Het kunstwerk is overal. Maar kijk rond Urban Spree, de East Side Gallery en bij verschillende haltes op de U-Bahn terwijl je door Berlijn reist.

8. Eet straatvoedsel

Omdat Berlijn zo’n jonge stad is vol met ondernemers, studenten en immigranten, is het geen verrassing dat er talloze kraampjes op straatvoedsel zijn en kosteneffectief voedsel aanbieden zo divers als de mensen van Berlijn.

Of je nu een late-night shoarma, lekker Indiaas eten, een pittige burrito of de favoriet van de stad wilt: Currywurst, je zult iets vinden om je verlangens te bevredigen.

Probeer de Indiase en Mexicaanse kraampjes bij Urban Spree, een shoarma van Mustafa’s en Currywurst (dat gefrituurde worst bedekt is met ketchup en currypoeder) van Curry 36.

Verder, als je op een zondag in Berlijn bent en als je van Thais eten houdt, ga dan naar PreUßenpark. Hier vindt u Thaise gezinnen die voedsel voor voorbijgangers koken. Maaltijden zijn € 10 en jonger met het groentekussen Thaise, loempia’s, tofu -soep en broodjes gevuld met groenten die sterk worden aanbevolen.

9. Hangout in een rivierbar

De club der Visionäre is een relaxte, rustieke nachtclub / bar langs het kanaal in de buurt van Treptower Park. In het weekend is het buitenhouten terras de plek om een ​​koud biertje te zijn met een geweldig uitzicht. ‘S Avonds draaien DJ’s in de vroege uren. Mis deze plek niet!

10. Ga op een gratis wandeltocht

Overal in Europa vindt u gratis wandeltochten in de hoofdsteden. We gingen op tours in Plovdiv, Sofia, Tirana, Praag en Berlijn. De gratis tournee hierheen neemt je mee door de Mitte Borough en naar veel van de belangrijke locaties in de stad, zoals Checkpoint Charlie, Brandanberg Gate, Museum Island en Reichstag.
