Zomer is wanneer de Koreaanse stad Boryeong down en vies wordt.
Het is niet wat je waarschijnlijk denkt. We hebben het over het Boryeong Mud Festival. Het begon allemaal in het midden van de jaren negentig toen een cosmetica-merk producten lanceerde met behulp van de mineraal-rijke modder gevonden bij Boryeong Mud Flats, waarvan wordt aangenomen dat het goed is voor de huid. In 1998, als onderdeel van een enorme promotiecampagne, vervoerde het bedrijf de modder naar Daecheon Beach en startte hij modderspellen, waardoor het allereerste Boryeong Mud Festival werd gelanceerd. Praktisch 20 jaar later blijft het een van de belangrijkste zomervieringen in Zuid -Korea. Het wordt gedurende een periode van twee weken in juli gehouden.

Inzicht in Boryeong, Zuid -Korea
Boryeong is een havenstad op 141 km van Seoul. Koreanen verwijzen in sommige gevallen naar de plaats als daecheon omdat de huidige Boryeong een fusie is tussen Daecheon City en Boryeong-gun. Omzoomd door de wateren van de Gele Zee in het westen, is het een populaire zomerbestemming, met Daecheon Beach als een topplaats om te bezoeken. Tijdens het festival worden enorme opblaasbare dia’s, een uitvoeringsfase en andere attracties opgezet langs Daecheon Beach, waar al het plezier gebeurt.

Hoe u naar Boryeong / Daecheon Beach kunt komen
De dichtstbijzijnde luchthaven is Seoul-Incheon, waardoor het zeer beschikbaar is voor buitenlandse toeristen. Veel grote steden ter wereld zijn verbonden met Seoul door veel van zowel Legacy Airlines als goedkope vervoerders.
Als je uit Manilla komt, is de meest betaalbare optie om AirAsia te vliegen, die de laagste het hele jaar door tarieven voor Seoul biedt. AirAsia heeft onze vluchten naar Seoul in de aankoop gebracht om het festival te ervaren. Wat geweldig is aan de AirAsia-vlucht is de tijd, gepland om dagelijks om 07.10 uur te vertrekken en om 12:55 uur aan te komen, net op tijd voor de typische hotelcontroletijd om 14.00 uur (als u eerst in de hoofdstad verblijft).

Als u rechtstreeks van de luchthaven naar Boryeong gaat, moet u aan boord gaan van de luchthaventrein naar het station van Yongsan, waar u een Korail -trein naar Boryeong neemt.
Om naar het station van Yongsan te gaan, neemt u de spoorlijn van de luchthaven naar het station Gongdeok (waar u naartoe gaat).

Als Boryeong niet je eerste stop is in Korea en je komt uit je hotel in Seoul, hier is hoe.
Met de trein. Afhankelijk van waar u zich in de stad bevindt, neemt u de trein/metro/metro naar het station van Yongmun, waar u aan boord gaat van een Korail -trein naar het station van Daecheon.

Reistijd: 2 uur, 40 minuten

Met de bus. Merk op dat de reistijd sterk varieert volgens welke terminal u vandaan komt en hoe slecht verkeer is.
Ga naar de busstation of Dong Seoul Bus Terminal naar Central City en rijd met de bus naar Boryeong busstation of rechtstreeks naar Daecheon Beach (beschikbaar tijdens het festival). Reistijd: centrale stad, 2,25 uur; Dong Seoul, 3,5 uur. Tarief: 10-15.000 gewonnen.
Als je naar Boryeong busstation gaat, neem dan de bus naar Daecheon Beach. Reistijd: 35 minuten. Frequentie: 1 om de 10 minuten.
Per bureau-gearrangeerde groepstour. Een andere probleemloze manier om het festival te ervaren, is door deel te nemen aan een groepsreis van 1 dagen die je rond 07.00 uur rechtstreeks van Seoul zou brengen naar Daecheon Beach en je terug te brengen naar het vallen van de avond. Deze verpakte dagtochten kosten meestal ergens tussen de USD 50-80, afhankelijk van het bureau en de grootte van de groep.

Het is tijd om te beslissen hoe lang je in Boryeong wilt blijven.
Onthoud: het Boryeong Mud Festival loopt 2 weken. Er kan veel gebeuren in 2 weken, vooral tijdens het laatste weekend van het evenement. Hier zijn de voor- en nadelen.

Day trips are becoming a much more popular choice because accommodation rates in Boryeong at this time of the year are sky high. The problem is, a day isn’t enough to experience all the fun that floods the event. remember that you will leave Seoul in the morning and arrive between 10 to 11am. If you leave at 4pm,you only have 5-6 hours to delight in the muddy party. That’s not enough time, in my opinion because:
The queues are so long, it would eat up much of your time. You’ll be able to try only a few attractions given that you still have a lot of other things to fall in line for (i.e. locker room and shower).
There are activities at night, too! You will miss it if you leave in the middle of the afternoon.
There are a few much more places to visit. Daecheon beach alone is a lengthy stretch.
In my personal opinion, an overnight stay is ideal. Booking a room even just for a night not only gives you much more time to enjoy, it also gives you space to keep your valuables without the hassle and the worry and a private place to clean up and freshen up after all the madness.

Summer is top season, and hotel prices are even higher in July when the festival is happening. rooms also tend to be sold out easily. If you decide to spend a night or two in Boryeong, be sure to book in advancement to protected a room.

Okay, first things first: what to wear. Oude kleding. Basically, clothes that you wouldn’t cry over ought to they get ruined. You will get really dirty! and I’ve seen some have their t-shirts ripped apart while playing a game.
When it concerns other items, it is essential to bring as little as possible. but here are the bare essentials:
Extra clothes. Something good and clean you can wear after you shower.
Geld. So you could purchase food and pay for shower, lockers, or food.
Waterproof pouch or bag. Where you can put money and other valuables. For your phone, a see-through waterproof cover is a should if you’re planning on taking your phone with you everywhere.
Zonnescherm. Make sure your skin is correctly protected.
Cheap lockers are available in one of the buildings (just ask around, everyone knows where it is). However, not only the number very limited, it’s also so crowded all the time. The lockers themselves are also small, there’s only so much you can keep in it. There’s another baggage deposit area but it’s much pricier.

Don’t expect too much from the beach. It’s clean, alright, but if you’ve been to tropical white beaches (like those in the Philippines, Thailand or Indonesia), you’ll be very disappointed by the sand here. It’s just not as fine and far from fair (more brown-ish). but you’ll learn to appreciate it when you start taking a dip after being covered with mud all day.
During the festival, the beach is very crowded. erg druk. just managing your expectations.
All activities stop during lunch time. If you want to avoid long queues at restaurants, have early lunch before midday or late lunch past 1:30pm.
If you’re on a day tour, have a meal before going to Daecheon Beach. Food prices within the vicinity of the games are much higher. A meal costs no lower than 15,000 won. best to bring food instead or just dine at a stopover on the way to the city. Others who are short on cash or time choose to just have cupped noodles (from benefit stores) for lunch.
The public locker room closes at 4pm. The sign on the door says that if you fail to fetch the things you deposited before then, you will be able to get them the following morning. DO NOT forget this if you’re on a day tour. (Although during my visit, they still allowed people to get their valuables and it was already past 4.)

FREE wi-fi is available, but they’re not that reputable because you’re sharing it with a lot of other visitors. coverage isn’t that wide, either.
